Not-so-silly trends

It’s the trend that just won’t go away. No, we’re not talking about the silly “I can’t believe I just spent $20 on animal-shaped rubber bands to avoid a meltdown at Target” trend.  We’re talking about the mobile boom boom pow!—as demonstrated by Apple selling close to 2 million iPhone 4G devices this past week. Smartphone penetration is now above 20%, with over 50 million total smartphones in the U.S. In fact, it’s expected that mobile Internet users will outnumber traditional web users by 2014. So, instead of continuing to lose share of your audience, why not ride this mobile wave? Why not try and connect to this growing number in innovative, relevant ways? (Cue the shameless self-promotion.)

This past week, we launched a teaser Q.R. Code campaign for a world-renowned art museum, which enables mobile users to scan mysterious works of art in public places to learn more about them, and even hear an audio guide right on their cell phones. Okay, so maybe it’s not as cool as your kids new Shrek Bandz, but hey, we think it’s still pretty neato. (To make this article more mobile-friendly, click here to have British Bridget read it to you. That way you can focus on more important things. Umm, like the road.)
